The Redwood Empire Chapter of CSI toured the Redwood Empire Sawmill located in Cloverdale on May 5th. About 20 members took this rare opportunity to see how logs are transformed into a variety of products including pickets, posts, fence boards and so on. This video shows the start of that process. After being cut into dimensional lumber, it is sorted, finished and dried before it goes to market. This process typically takes about 60 days. Cloverdale's dry warm weather is ideally suited for drying the lumber without causing warping or cracking.
